The Art of Fresco Painting
Fresco, the art of painting on a fresh plaster surface, is one of the most durable of all painting media. The technique dates back thousands of years, with examples from ancient Egypt, Minoan Crete, Rome and Byzantium. Fresco was rediscovered in the Renaissance era, resulting in Michelangelo's magnificent frescoes in the Sistine Chapel. The art of fresco painting has been revived in recent times-in this talk we will visit a notable fresco project that is underway right now in Santa Rosa. Learn about the age-old technique and its many uses over time, in this illustrated presentation with art historian Lynn Ostling.
